What is rights-managed stock photography?

It is a stock photography that is licensed for a specific purpose and time period. The licensing of Rights-Managed images is at all times subject to limitations on use as specifically agreed upon by You and Zenon Images in advance. The terms of licensing will specify such things as the media in which the Rights-Managed image will appear, the name of the end user (e.g. Your client, if applicable), geographical distribution, size of reproduction, duration of use and exclusivity required. Rights-managed images are priced based on how they will be licensed for usage.

What is royalty free stock photography?
It's stock photography that is licensed for unlimited usage after purchase. Once you purchase royalty-free stock photography, you can use and re-use their royalty free photos and CDs for as many different projects and clients as you wish without paying further licensing fees. "Royalty free" is actually a misnomer since royalty free stock photography is not "free". Rather, royalty free photos and CDs must first be purchased before any usage is permitted.

How to search for images

Tips to improve your search experience

Logical operators

You can improve your search results by using the three words "AND" or "NOT" after the first word entered into the search criteria.
For example, if you are looking for a child with glasses, in the search criteria box you would write: child AND glasses
If the results of that search are still too varied because you see images of children and drinking glasses, you can improve your search by adding the following: child AND glasses NOT "drinking glasses"
If the results are still not specific enough and for example, children with sunglasses do not interest you, you can add more "NOT" categories. For example: child AND glasses NOT "drinking glasses" NOT sunglasses

Search within results
Once you have made a search, you can improve the results obtained by making a search within these results you already have. Below the search bar, the option "Search within results" will come up. This check box is not marked by default, therefore if you wrote a new word in the search bar, you would be making a new search. If you mark this option, you will be making a search only within the results that you got.
For instance, if you make first a search of the word "dog", you will get over 20.000 results. To refine the search, then you click on the check box "Search within results" and write the word that you wish (ex. "white"), thus you will reduce the number of results obtained in your previous search. Above the search bar you will see the criteria that you have been entering: Keyword search on: (dog) white

Select criteria from an image
Once you have made a search, if you click on an image you can see the keywords that describe the image. You can choose the criteria that interest you the most in order to refine your search.
For example, if you make a search for the word "dog", you will get over 20.000 results. If you click on an image that fits with the type you like, you can then mark those criteria from the image that match what you are looking for: "dog", "exterior", "happy": this way you will have succeeded in reducing your search down to 2.500 results.

Model Release
When you make a search you will see that below the check boxes where you choose whether you want only Rights Managed images or Royalty Free images, there is another check box that shows MR: Model Release. This option is not checked by default, however if you check it the results that will come up from your search will be only of images that are model-released.

Different types of searches

Keyword search tips
? Go straight to the images you are seeking by choosing:
1. the type of licensing (Rights Managed or Royalty Free),
2. topics of interest (specialty categories such as Historical & Fine Arts, Celebrities, Creative, etc. as listed above),
3. other physical image attributes (image orientation, format, etc.), and
4 Model Release (the images are model-released).
? If you choose to include both Rights Managed and Royalty Free images, search results will be displayed within 3 groups:
1. total images,
2. Rights Managed search results, and
3. Royalty Free search results.
? Enter as many keywords as you want, separated by a space (a space means "AND").
? Use "NOT" in order to make your search more precise (e.g.: beach AND sun NOT child).
? Enter either singular or plural forms, both will be searched.
? Write combined words in between quotation marks (e.g.: "New York", "marine mammals") and add logical operators if necessary (e.g.: "New York" AND police).
? Use the infinitive or the gerund for verbs.

Image number search tips
? Enter as many image codes as you want, separated by a comma and without any spacing. E.g.: 2021385,57586.
? If you enter an erroneous image code, you will not be shown any "error" messages as long as you have entered at least one correct code.

Photographer search tips
? Write the photographer's last name.
? If you are using a combined name concept in your search, write it in quotation marks (e.g.: "Jaume Gual", "Butch Martin").

Using the lightboxes

Floating lightboxes

YOUR LIGHTBOXES
You will see an area at the bottom of the search results pages called YOUR LIGHTBOXES. This new area is visible on your screen all the time, even if you scroll up or down the page, in a way that seems to float over the search results. Because of this, we will refer to this area as floating lightboxes. This area lets you perform the most usual actions over you lightboxes. Other actions are achieved via the lightbox management page; if you wish, you may check the lightbox management page help.

If you used the 6 lightboxes method we used to have at our website, you will now see them in the drop down list with names from 01 to 06; if you wish you may change their name by clicking on > Rename lightbox.
Number of lightboxes

You may create as many lightboxes as you need. Your lightboxes will be waiting for you when you come back but not for ever: they have and expiry date and, if you don't change it later, will be kept on our system for only 6 months since the date they were created.
Active lightbox

Your active lightbox is the one selected in the drop down list. Images will be added to that lightbox. Use the drop down list to select a different lightbox as your active one.

If you create a new lightbox, it will become the active one. You cannot have more than one active lightbox at the same time.

Pricing about Rights Managed Images

When you license Rights Managed images, you are doing so for specific pre-defined usages according to your own requirements. The licensing fees are based on several factors such as the usage, industry, duration, media, circulation and geographic distribution. You are typically granted one-time usage rights You are not allowed to edit or alter the images unless previously authorized by Zenon Images. By using Rights Managed, you are ensured that there is limited usage of the image; you can even request exclusive rights to an image to eliminate its simultaneous usage by other agencies and competitors. To calculate price of a Rights Managed image, click on the option Price quote underneath the image. A form will appear and you will have to choose your parameters about your image usage.

Pricing about Royalty Free Images

When you license Royalty Free images or purchase any Royalty Free CD, you obtain use of the images or CDs for a one-time flat fee. Royalty Free images are ready for you to use in multiple projects such as advertising, leaflets, packaging, internet and multimedia uses, and more. The Royalty Free license also allows you to modify an image to create a unique work of your own. Useful information about your online Purchase

? All images are compressed as JPG to the highest quality.
? All images are in RGB color space.
? All images have a very light USM (unsharp mask) so that you may adjust the mask to you own needs. We recommend that you start with 135 by Amount, 2 Radius and 2 Threshold.
? Remember that you should apply the USM (unsharp mask) last of all.
? Remember that an excessive use of the USM (unsharp mask) exaggerates the grain of an image.
? The best way to apply sharpen is to transform the image to LAB color space (CIELAB). In this color space the channel of luminosity (L) has no color information and as a result the smoothness of the image is greatly improved.
